How to Make Chocolate Chip Protein Pancakes: A Delicious and Nutritious Breakfast Boost
I am always on the lookout for a high-protein breakfast that isn’t just yogurt or cottage cheese. These protein pancakes are super simple and only have three ingredients in the mix! With 11g of protein per serving, they make for the perfect meal-prep breakfast to make before a busy week in the office.
Why you’ll love these protein pancakes:
This protein pancake recipe is one of the simplest meal prep foods to make for a busy week of work. Easily stored in the fridge, you can make them days ahead and heat them up quickly before eating. Another great thing is that you can use any add-ins you want and any protein pancake mix you want. Kodiak has a popular protein pancake mix at most grocery stores, and Trader Joe’s has their own protein pancake mix with great macros.
While most pancakes contain egg and sugar, these pancakes don’t use those ingredients, and therefore help take away that additional fat. They serve up nicely with some maple syrup or natural honey!

What are some other add-ins that I can put in my pancakes?
Chocolate chips aren’t the only thing that make pancakes taste great. Feel free to experiment with any fruit or sweet that you like!
- Cinnamon: cinnamon is a great addition to pancakes especially paired with honey. Sprinkle it in and create your own cinnamon roll protein pancakes!
- Honey: great for adding into the batter and also drizzling on top! You can substitute with maple syrup as well.
- Blueberries: if you want to experiment with some fruit and add in some healthy sugars, blueberries are my personal favorite option. they cook nicely and create a sweet and sour flavor inside the protein pancakes.
- Bananas: bananas are also perfect for adding into these pancakes, caramelizing nicely on the pan.
- Nutella: if you like peanut butter or hazelnut butter, try adding some nutella into your pancakes during cooking or on top as a garnish afterwards!
What if I don’t like sweet pancakes?
That’s totally fine! You can easily turn these protein pancakes into a savory breakfast instead of sweet. Try some of the add-ins below for a nice and salty breakfast to start your day!
- Bacon bits: either cook them yourself and chop the bacon up, or buy pre-made bacon bits for the store for an easy and salty addition to your pancakes.
- Cheese: add some extra protein to your pancakes by tossing in your favorite type of cheese. Some ideas are cheddar, mozzarella or feta!
- Spinach and feta: if you need some iron in your diet, feel free to try adding some spinach and feta into your protein pancakes for a fun and savory twist.
- Sausage or ham: another way to add some additional protein in your pancakes is adding some meat. Sausage and ham are the perfect breakfast foods that will taste great with this recipe.

How to store these protein pancakes:
These pancakes can be prepped a couple days ahead of time depending on how you are going to store them. If you are going to keep them at room temperature, eat the protein pancakes within two days and ensure they are fully cooled off before putting into a ziploc or tupperware. If you are going to store them in the fridge, you can keep them in an airtight container for up to four days!
These protein pancakes are perfect for meal prepping. Let me know if you try and love this recipe!
