How to Make the Perfect Hard Boiled Egg Every Time
Have you been wanting to make some egg salad, deviled eggs or simply just dye some eggs for Easter? Boiled eggs are a delicacy that can be enjoyed in these situations and many more, but preparing them requires the upmost precision. From a flawlessly cooked yolk, to the perfect peel of the eggshell; this recipe shows you step by step how to boil an egg to perfection.
One of my favorite recipes to use these eggs for is my high-protein egg salad using greek yogurt. It takes two eggs each time, and the results are a creamy and salty egg salad that is perfect for sourdough or eating with crackers. Try this recipe here!

Does it matter what kind of eggs I use?
Honestly, I have used many different brands of eggs and they have all come out the same way if I follow this process. The key to the perfect boiled egg is to ensure that the eggs are going straight from the fridge to the pot so that they get the same cook every time.
What are the key tips to getting the perfect egg?
- Taking them straight from the fridge.
- Letting them sit in the fridge for as long as possible for the perfect peel.
- Moving the pot of eggs to an unheated space on the stove after the water boils.
Step 1: Put your eggs into a saucepan and fill the pot with water until the eggs are fully submerged.
Step 2: Put the pot onto the stove and turn it on to medium-high heat.
Step 3: Let the pot heat until the water comes to a boil, reaching about 207 degrees Fahrenheit.

Step 4: Immediately turn off the stove and cover the pot with water. Move the pot to a separate space on the stove that is not heated. Set a timer for 10 minutes.
Step 5: When the time is nearing 1 minute left, fill a large bowl halfway with ice and water, creating an ice bath.
Step 6: Once the timer goes off, carefully remove each egg and place them into the ice bath. Set another timer for 10 minutes.

Step 7: After the 10 minutes have passed, place the eggs into the fridge and let them sit for at least 30 minutes for easier peeling.
Step 8: Peel the egg shells off and enjoy a delicious result!

The Perfect Boiled Egg
Equipment
- 1 1 quart pot
- 1 large bowl with ice water
- 1 digital thermometer
Materials
- 4 raw eggs (straight from the fridge)
- 2 cups ice
- 3 cups water
Instructions
- Take 4-6 eggs out of the fridge and place them directly into your pot.
- Fill the pot up with tap water until the eggs have about 1/2 inch of water above them, making sure they are fully submerged in the water.
- Place them on the burner and turn it on medium-high heat.
- Watch your pot closely until the water comes to a rolling boil. Monitor the water temperature with a digital thermometer. I always turn off the stove when my water reaches 207℉.
- After turning off the stove, cover the pot immediately with a lid and move it to a burner that isn’t hot.
- Set a timer for 10 minutes and let the pot sit while the eggs cook in the hot water.
- When the timer reaches 1 minute left, fill a large bowl with the 3 cups of water and 2 cups of ice. You may need more depending on how many boiled eggs you are making.
- Once the timer is finished for the eggs, use a slotted spoon to remove each egg carefully from the pot and place into the ice bath.
- Set another timer for 10 minutes and let the eggs sit uncovered in the ice bath.
- Once the ice bath is finished, you can place the eggs directly into the fridge in a tupperware, or start peeling them right away.
